Position Description: Inventory Clerk

Department: Accounting

Reports to: Controller

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Position Summary: The Inventory Clerk assures proper control of all merchandise and related administrative functions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Processes weekly stock orders.
  • Verifies that all orders are accurate.
  • Enters merchandise into the system.
  • Enters credits for returned merchandise.
  • Removes returned merchandise from inventory after credit is received.
  • Matches purchase orders and invoices and forwards them to the accounting department.
  • Files copies of all invoices.
  • Assists in preparing for inventory and participates in inventory.

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).


Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple reports. Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one with customers or employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as weights and percentages. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to apply concepts of basic accounting.


Other Skills & Abilities:

Skill and ability to operate a computer. Skill and ability to organize and prioritize work. Skill and ability to meet deadlines and operate office equipment. Skill and ability to use company software.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Physical Demands:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and use a computer. The employee frequently is required to talk, hear and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a computer monitor. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
