Job Description :

Our client aims to initiate a digital transformation in the manufacturing industry that will significantly strengthen the competitiveness of manufacturing companies in Flanders. Our client focuses on the following trends: smart, interconnected products & production systems, customized products at the cost of series production, agile, people-oriented production organizations and sustainable products & production systems.

As an R&D Vision Engineer:

• Work together in a research team with experts in control, sensing and mechanical design;
• Collect and organize data on an automated vision system for defect detection
• Testing and comparing different hardware (lighting, cameras, view points ...) to optimize the recorded data sets
• Use leading computer vision libraries (OpenCV, dlib, ImageJ/Fiji, Halcon);
• Choose the right optics, lenses, illumination, imaging sensors and computing platforms for the challenge;
• Perform camera calibration and implement stereo/3D imaging architectures;
• Prepare functional prototypes and demonstrators.
• Annotating the data using Python scripts developed by the client
• To test and analyze the various AI models and parameters using the collected datasets

To help manufacturing companies with their quality control, our client developed an active vision system that uses smart algorithms to determine the best viewpoints for the camera and AI to detect potential defects.
Much data is needed to further test and optimize this setup. As a vision engineer, you will assist the team of robot and AI experts to collect this data and further optimize the hardware and software for defect detection.

Profile / Requirements :

You have:

• A Master or PhD in computer vision or another relevant domain (Electronic/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science/Information Technology, Robotics, Mathematics or Physics…);
• Preferably 5 years of experience in research or industry;
• Experience in designing computer vision algorithms (Python, C++, Matlab);
• Familiarity with leading computer vision libraries (OpenCV, dlib, ImageJ/Fiji);
• A thorough understanding of machine learning methods and associated software libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, scipy, weka, Keras, Tensorflow);
• A keen interest in designing and implementing computer vision set-ups (cameras, imaging sensors and technologies, system-on-chip and other computing platforms).
