Job Description:

PERMANENT ROLE:

This client is a large manufacturer based in South Auckland. They are looking for someone with that has hands-on experience in Mechanical work. Maybe you like fixing machines or have completed a similar course.

Knife sharpeners are responsible for sharpening knives and other cutting tools. They use a variety of sharpening methods, including grinding, honing, and stropping. Knife sharpeners must be able to identify the type of steel used in a knife and choose the appropriate sharpening method. They must also be able to sharpen knives to a razor-sharp edge.

This is an afternoon shift position, Monday to Friday. The successful person will be trained on day shift until they have learnt the role, then moved to the afternoon shift. You will also need to be available to work on a weekend roster.

Day-to-day responsibilities of the role:

• Sharpen knives and other cutting tools using a variety of methods, including grinding, honing, and stropping
• Identify the type of steel used in a knife and choose the appropriate sharpening method
• Sharpen knives to a razor-sharp edge
• Clean and maintain sharpening equipment
• Follow all safety procedures
• Handling tools to complete tasks, by using grinding stones

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• A positive attitude
• A keen willingness to learn and follow instructions
• An excellent record of attendance and stability within previous roles
• 1+ years of experience sharpening knives OR handling tool skills
• Strong understanding of sharpening methods and steel types
• Excellent attention to detail and quality control skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects
• Have manufacturing experience is an advantage
